Easter Egg Roll!

Today we went to the Easter Egg Roll at the White House! What an adventure! We were really lucky to get tickets from one of the mom's at Stroller Strides. Her husband works at the White House and was nice enough to help us get in today. We woke up extra early (I was dragging The P out of bed at 7 while she was still sound asleep) and were out the door by 7:20. We met our friends at one of the South Lawn entrances around 8:15 and headed into the Easter Egg Roll.

There were tons of activities for kids. Face painting, egg hunt, egg dyeing, of course the egg roll, and lots and lots of characters to take pictures with. One of our first stops was the egg roll. I took The P through the line and Adam went down to the end to take pictures. While we were waiting in line, we saw George W Bush walking through the Rose Garden to get ready to address the crowd. We did the egg roll and The P got a big chocolate covered marshmallow egg for her efforts!

Then we got a good spot and waited for The President to come out. First the Easter Bunny and Mrs. Easter Bunny (I guess?) came out on the balcony. The P waved and waved and said "Hi Easter Bunny", while the little girl behind us said "Easter Bunny come down here!" The Jonas Brothers sang the National Anthem, and then George and Laura came out to welcome everyone. After their greeting they came down to officially start the egg roll. We were pretty close, but it was hard to see. If you look at the person in black to the left of the "ST" sign, that's "W".

After the excitement of The President died down we went to see what other activities we could find. The P did a bunny obstacle course and then we found a stage where Elmo and Zoe were performing. The P watched from Daddy's shoulders and waved to Elmo. Shortly after Elmo was done, Mickey Mouse came out. That was also very exciting for The P.

As we walked around the lawn there were dressed up characters everywhere you looked. I think there were so many that The P finally started to get used to them. When we spotted some Cabbage Patch Kids she had the courage to give them high fives and an actual hug. (Who knows, maybe it was that chocolate marshmallow egg that gave her courage?!)

It was a good thing she warmed up to the characters, because then we found the Easter Bunny! She walked right up and touched his "mittens" and we finally got our long awaited picture. No tears or anything!

After the last photo op it was time to go. It was pretty chilly this morning (thankfully it didn't rain) and we were cold, tired and hungry. Needless to say, we really enjoyed the Egg Roll. It was a great experience! It was really nice to be able to participate in a true Washington DC experience before we move...
